Why an ACE or NuLine Gutter Cannot Be Repaired in Sections
These systems were sold as the convenient option: fascia and gutter in one, clipped straight to the roof trusses with no separate board behind. That is exactly what makes them impossible to patch. One piece of steel is doing two jobs at once — carrying the water, and holding the edge of the roof on.
So a sectional repair does not work on it:
- The gutter cannot come off without the fascia coming off with it
- Nothing sold today matches the profile, so a patched length never lines up
- It rusts from the inside out, so by the time it is visible the run has usually gone
- Joins leak and internal brackets rust out, and there is no way to get behind them
- Once it fails, water tracks in behind the roof edge and into the eaves and walls

A Nu-Line Conversion Takes Three Different Trades
This is the bit nobody mentions when you start ringing around, and it is why a lot of Gold Coast contractors will not quote the job at all. Turning an all-in-one fascia gutter system back into a normal fascia and gutter is not a one-tradesman job. It runs through three different trades, in order along the same roofline: a tiler to lift and re-lay the roof edge — most of these older homes are brick-and-tile, so the bottom course of tiles laps over the top of the Nu-Line unit and has to come up first — then a carpenter to rebuild the fascia, because once the all-in-one unit is off there is none left on the house, and finally a metal roofer to hang the new fascia and gutter, set to fall with the downpipes reconnected.
What that actually means for you:
- No single tradesman can do the lot. Each stage is a different skill set, and they have to run in sequence along the same run of roofline.
- The roofline gets rebuilt, not repaired. With the all-in-one unit off there is nothing left to hang a gutter on, so the edge of the house has to be built again from scratch.
- Done out of order, it leaks. The repairs we get called back to are nearly always jobs where the stages were rushed or run in the wrong sequence, and water ends up behind the new gutter.
- The quote will not look like a re-gutter quote. You are pricing three trades instead of one, so comparing it to a straight gutter replacement price tells you nothing.

Is it Nu-Line, Nu Line or NuLine?
All of them, plus ACE Nu-Line and plain ACE gutters. Every one of those names describes the same combined fascia-and-gutter system, and we replace the lot.
How do I tell if I have got one?
Stand back and look up under the roof edge. If there is no separate fascia board behind the gutter, and the gutter and fascia are obviously the same pressed piece of steel, that is an ACE or Nu-Line system. Send us a photo if you are not sure and we will tell you.
Can I just repair a section of my nuline gutter?
No. Because the fascia and gutter are a single piece, cutting the bad part out leaves nothing behind to work with. Even localised damage means the run gets replaced.
Why does it take three trades?
Because it is a rebuild, not a repair. Taking the all-in-one unit off leaves nothing behind, so the roofline has to be put back together from scratch — a tiler to lift and re-lay the roof edge, a carpenter to rebuild the fascia, and a metal roofer for the new fascia and gutter, one after the other. It is why no single tradesman can quote the whole thing, and why most contractors will not touch it.
Will the fascia be replaced as well?
It has to be. The Nu-Line unit is the fascia, so once it is off, a new fascia goes on before any gutter is hung.
What goes back on?
New metal fascia and a separate Colorbond gutter in the profile and colour you pick — Quad, Squareline or OGEE — with downpipes reconnected and everything to code.
Do I have to do the whole house at once?
Usually yes, appearance as much as anything — a converted run sitting next to an original ACE run does not look right. We will assess it and tell you straight.
